3D Studio Max Model a Tank Part 08


Hi everyone, welcome to today’s continuation of the multi-part tutorial on modeling of a tank. This is the 8th part of a multi-part tutorial on creating a military tank. Today, we look at using editable splines created from the previous tutorial, and loft object, to create the barrel for our tank.

1. select create tab

2. cllick Shapes

3. select Splines from object type dropdown box

4. click Line, and ensure AutoGrid is checked

5. click Geometry

6. select Compound Objects from object type dropdown box

7. click Loft

8. click Get Shape

9. click on barrel obj in the top viewport

10. click the Loft object

11. press Alt+X to toggle on see-through mode

12. select modify tab

13. click + sign for Skin Parameters, to open the Skin Parameters section

14. change Shape Steps to 2, and Path Steps to 0

15. under Path parameters, click Percentage

16. click and drag Path value, to increase it, till you see the yellow X, move to the start of where the barrel evacuator (thicker part of the barrel) is indicated to be by reference image in the front viewport.

17. ensure Get Shape button is activated

18. click on barrel obj in the top viewport

19. increase Path value by about 0.1, then click barrelevacuator obj

20. increase Path value, till it reaches the end of the barrel evacuator, as indicated by the reference image in the front viewport

21. click on barrelevacuator obj in the top viewport

22. increase Path value by about 0.1, then click barrel obj

23. increase Path value till it reaches the start of the barrel aim point, as indicated by the reference image in the front viewport

24. click on barrel obj

24. increase Path value by about 0.1,then click barrelaim obj

25. increase Path value till it reaches the end of the barrel aim point, as indicated by the reference image in the front viewport

26. click on barrelaim obj

27. increase Path value by about 0.1,then click barrel ob

28. right-click left viewport

29. press E, to select rotate tool

30. ensure angle snap is on

31. rotate barrel loft object 90 degrees, till the ellipse forming the aim point is rotated to the top

32. select Path subjobject under Loft, click + sign besides Line, then select Vertex

33. press W, to select move tool

34. select vertex at one end of the barrel loft object

35. change its y coordinate to 0

36. select vertex at other end of the barrel loft object

37. change its y coordinate to 0
