Add new wireless network for Windows XP
Good day, everyone. Today, we will look at how to configure your windows xp pc to add a new wireless network.
1. click Start > Control Panel
2. double-click Network Connections
3. right-click the icon representing your wireless network connection, and select Properties
4. select Wireless Networks tab
5. click Add button
6. enter your network name or SSID, eg. smc122008
note: SSID stands for session set id, i.e. the name of the wireless network, all pcs, routers, etc on the same wireless network must have the same network name or SSID value, otherwise they cannot connect
note: you can enter any value for the SSID, as long as it matches that of the router or other pcs on the wireless network you wish to access
7. for wireless network key section, select WPA-PSK from the network authentication dropdown box
note: WEP (Wireless Equivalent Privacy) is another encryption standard you can use, but it is older and less secure than using WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access), so if there’s a choice between using WEP or WPA, then you should use WPA
8. enter vaue for the network key and confirm network key
note: this value is the password value set for the wireless router or wireless access point, if this value does not match the value set by the wireless router or wireless access point, then you cannot access the wireless network
9. click OK
