Install Windows 2003 Server
Hi everyone, welcome to today’s tutorial on installing the windows 2003 server.
1. Place windows 2003 server bootable disc into cd
2. reboot pc, and ensure that order of boot (may require changing bios settings) allows cd to boot up before hard disk
3. select appropriate partition to setup the operating system
note:
- to create a partition in selected unpartitioned (free) space, press C
- to delete a selected partition, press D
- to install windows in selected partition, press enter
4. press enter (assume that you have created a NTFS partition already, and you have already properly formatted it) (recommend you use gparted live cd to create the partition first, as its usually more intuitive than using the built-in partition manager)
5. select format the partition using the NTFS file system (quick) (assume you have already properly formatted the partition)
note:
- only use quick format if you have already properly formatted the partition once before => quick format only deletes whatever files maybe on the partition, but does not really format it again
- use quick format to format if you have already properly formatted the partition before => a full proper format takes a much longer time to do
6. press F to format the drive
note:
- pc will now format the partition, copy files to it, install files
7. at regional and language options dialog box, click next
8. at personal your software dialog box, enter an appropriate name (eg. belldy) and organization, then click next
9. at computer name and administrator password, enter an appropriate name for your computer (eg. belldy), and enter administrator password and confirm this password, then click next
10. at date and time settings dialog box, select appropriate time zone (eg. gmt +8:00 kuala lumpur, singapore) , and set calendar and clock to correct date and time, then click next
11. at workgroup or computer domain dialog box, select radio button to make pc a member of a workgroup, and enter an appropriate name for the workgroup (eg. WORKGROUP) (assume this pc will be the first pc of the domain, so no domain actually exists yet), then click next
note:
- a domain only exists when you have at least one dc (domain controller)
- you can change a pc into a dc (there’ll be a post later about how you can promote a computer to a domain controller)
12. at windows server post-setup security updates page, allow pc to install critical security updates and configure for automatic updates, then click finish
13. at windows server post-setup security updates dialog box, click yes, to close this page
