Create Image File with Norton Ghost
Good day everyone. Today, we will look at how to use norton ghost to create an image, which essentially acts as a backup for a partition on your hard disk.
1. click continue without marking drives
note: assume you have booted the pc with a norton ghost boot disk
note: you don’t need to mark drives to use norton ghost (at least, you are not required to mark current drive, if you run norton ghost program from a boot disk)
note: marking a drive adds a special ‘fingerprint’ on an unused part of your hard disk, so subsequent users know that norton ghost has been used on the drive
2. select local > partition > to image
3. select local source drive (the drive which contains the partition you wish to make an image of)
4. click ok
5. select source partition (the partition which you wish to make an image of, usually drive c, which usually contains your windows os files)
6. click ok
7. select destination drive and folder (destination partition cannot be the same as the source partition), and enter the name for the ghost image (extension is .gho) (eg. al0507, extension of .gho will be added automatically) (norton ghost 2003, build 793, used to bootup your pc is a dos program, so it uses dos 8.3 convention, so you can have at most 8 characters for the filename, and 3 characters for the extension)
8. click save button
9. select compression to use (usually choose fast, as it gives good compression, without need for too much time)
10. click yes (when it asks to proceed with partition image creation)
11. click continue (when it says image creation completed successfully)
you should verify integrity of ghost image, after you have created the ghost image. if you wish to know more, you can drop me an email asking about this.
