Photoshop Create Soft Edged Vignette
Good day everyone. Have you seen ads for expensive or luxury items or holidays, where the border of the picture is all hazy and indistinct, making it look dream-like. Well, if you remember these ads, and have ever wondered how you, too, can create such a soft edged vignette, then wonder no more, as I show you how you, too, can create such a dream-like effect.
1. open image to create a soft edge for
2. press M, to select rectangular marquee tool
3. click and drag out a rectangular selection, leaving a small unselected border around the selection
4. select select > feather, and enter a value for the feather radius, eg. 5, and click OK
note: the larger the feather radius, the larger selection area, will be feathered or softened, for small image value of 5 pixels should be enough, use bigger value for bigger images
5. select select > inverse, to inverse selection (in this case, the previously unselected ‘border’ around the rectangular selection is now selected)
6. press D, to set default background color to white
7. press Delete, to delete the selected area (the feathered selection of the ‘border’, around a ‘rectangle’)
note: you can adjust canvas size, and add text in the appropriate fonts and size to create the poster given above
