Photoshop Selection with Color Range tool

Hi everyone, today, we’re going to select areas of the image with similar color, using the color range tool.

Create selection with color range tool:

1. Select Select > Color Range

2. Use fuzziness of 20

note: increase fuzziness to allow for selection of greater range of similar colors, and decrease fuzziness for selecting smaller range of similar colors

3. Hold down Shift and click on areas of the image, containing the colors which you wish to select.

note: hold down shift and click to add colors at the clicked pt, or hold down alt and click to remove colors at clicked pt

note: white areas shown in the preview box are the selected areas, while black areas are the unselected areas

4. click OK, to create selection

Feather selection

1. Select Select > Feather

2. Enter feather radius, eg. 2, and click OK, to ‘feather’ selection, so selection will not be too ‘abrupt’ or sharp

Change color of selection

Select add hue or saturation adjustment layer

1. click add fill/adjustment layer button on layer panel, and select Hue/Saturation

2. change Hue to -80, and click OK
